COLOR GENETICS QUESTION?

This is a twin ram lamb born to V Creek Angel(listed as white but grey underneath by the skin throughout her fleece)and sired by Wintertime Black Forrest(black gulmoget ram carrying modified but no extension). His twin brother is definitely white with a pink nose. So folks...the question is what are Angel's color genetics based on this lambing? In the past she has produced two grey katmoget ram lambs bred to two different rams. Her sire is definitely a grey katmoget. The dam is listed as white and could be carrying Ag through her sire.

Interesting. I think it has to be the modifying gene. From the pedigrees and records, Forrest has to be AtAa, since he's produced solid lambs; Angel has to be Awt since she's produced at least one white lamb, and Ab since she's produced katmoget from a solid (non extension dominant?). I'll throw this out... there is no positive evidence (in the NASSA database) that Campaign Timothy is NOT ED. Wouldn't that be something? He has a preponderence of solid offspring, but he was bred mostly to solid ewes. Unlikely, but statistically possible. Maybe someone has data to show he isn't ED?

I can't see the face, but is the lamb a grey Gulkat? That would make mom Aw/Ab - as she's demonstrated in her lambing history.

I'm going to post a comment just so I can follow what more knowledgeable people have to say on this!

I do have a question, though. Can't an Awt sheep have colored (vs. pink) skin? I have a white ewe from Jim Chastain who is definitely Awt; she has lots of spots on her ears and nose. Jim says the UK breeders believe the more pigment on the face, the least likely they are to get some sort of condition. (It wasn't pink eye, but I can't remember what it WAS.) Maybe V Creek Angel really IS Awt?

I would believe she is Awt if her fleece was white. But parted it is definitely a solid grey underneath(light grey)? And the ram lamb isn't a gul/kat. He is solid colored from front to back with no light belly or areas on the head.

Karen,
Angel can't produce white from a colored ram unless she's Awt. Or, unless he's extension dominant. I'm not sure what to say about her grey fleece next to the skin. I've never seen a white sheep with more than just a few spots of pigment. The only way I see that Angel could be AgAa, is if Timothy was extension dominant. And then her other ram lamb couldn't be white. What am I missing? Mutation is always possible, but unlikely.
